“Dance With Me” by Cameron Avery

Cameron Avery, the longtime drummer of Pond and touring bassist for Tame Impala, has just released a brand new music video for his song “Dance With Me.” The video marks the third visual accompaniment to his upcoming debut album Ripe Dreams, Pipe Dreams out via Anti- on March 10th. The Nicole McDonald-directed video follows a heartbreaking fantasy in which Avery imagines himself having one last dance with his recently deceased love. Underscored by Avery’s contemplative baritone and sparse production rooted in bombastic drums, the video masterfully oscillates between deep feelings of love and loss, of elation and sorrow.

On the new video, Avery said “The clip for Dance With Me jumps is these two dreamscapes. The car wreck is kind of a metaphoric reality, where someone comes out of nowhere into your life and you’re incapable of avoiding them. The dancing scene is a dreamscape depicting the act of throwing all of yourself in their way in the hope they might open their eyes and see you. And then you play it over in your head and realise it probably couldn’t work anyway, hence the velvet blood, so you’re back where you started. The song itself is more about wanting someone to enter your life, like, gimme a chance, maybe I can make it better.”

The video for “Dance With Me” comes out as the Perth-based singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist is gearing up to tour his own project for the very first time, where he’ll use his beautiful low voice and soaring soul-pop melodies to propel his audiences through the dreamscapes he’ll create with his band. He’ll also be making an appearance at this year’s SXSW in Austin. See all tour dates below.
