Sacred Bones is a label known for its singular visual aesthetic. Rather than having a hodge-podge roster of hyped indie rock flavors of the month, the label itself is curated as one coherent, continuous art project. Film acts as an equally important source of inspiration for the design team (David Correll and Caleb Braaten) and it is probably the only label of its size to have an in-house video and short film director (Jacqueline Castel). The work of David Lynch has been an endless source of inspiration for the label and its celebrated roster artist, Nika Roza Danilova. The result of some mutual aesthetic appreciation is the first ever, official Zola Jesus remix, “In Your Nature” as heard through the ears of David Lynch. The remix will be available on the “In Your Nature” single to be released on February 21 via Sacred Bones Records.

Mr. Lynch was presented with a copy of Zola Jesus’ 2011 release, Conatus, and handpicked this track to remix. The term “remix”, however, is an understatement here. He rebuilt the track from scratch keeping only her signature vocals in tact; replacing the tension building strings with delicately crafted guitar and drum parts, written and performed by himself and engineer Dean Hurley. What was once a dance track becomes a lurching, cinematic masterpiece. What is left is something perhaps closer to the true nature of Zola Jesus than we had ever envisioned. Later on in the year, Sacred Bones is also set to reissue a deluxe vinyl version of Lynch’s Eraserhead soundtrack.
