Best known as one of the founding members of experimental/indie rock outfit Animal Collective, Avey Tare was born David Portner on April 24, 1979. Outside of the Animal Collective fold, the New York City-based multi-instrumentalist has released a handful of noisy, psych-rock albums with Eric Copeland of Black Dice under the Terrestrial Tones moniker, a collaboration with múm vocalist (and ex-wife) Kristín Anna Valtýsdóttir called Pullhair Rubeye and a 2010 solo album titled Down There.
