London’s newest hell-raisers Cherryade have dropped the video for their riotous alt-pop single ‘Get By’ and it’s not for the faint-hearted. It’s a seductive tongue-in-cheek performance full of devil-may-care attitude featuring money, blood and a human heart for dinner.
On ‘Get By’ the duo said, “We produced and directed the video ourselves, mainly because we’re broke, but also because we didn’t just wanna pose outside a council estate in East London looking all high fashion and shit like everyone else. We probably should have though since it’s apparently too controversial for VEVO… oops. PS. No animals were harmed in the making of this video, only rich husbands.”
The pair reveal, ‘”Get By’ is an important milestone in our lives. It marks the point where we got bored of writing about people we hate, and moved on to writing about marrying your rich granddad for his money and then throwing him down a canyon.”
Having met as childhood friends at a Catholic school plagued by a paedophile priest, Ella and Alex fled to London to begin their musical antics and have since worked with the likes of Ant Whiting (M.I.A., John Newman), Lewis Gardiner (PRIDES, KLOE), Dimitri Tikovoi (Charli XCX, MNEK) and Shaun Canning (Atom Tree), with their first releases ‘Fractured Fairytales’, ‘The Crown’ and ‘Houdini’ racking up an abundance of support from CLASH, DIY Magazine, PopJustice, Nylon, Wonderland, Spotify’s New Music Friday, Radio 1, BBC Introducing and more.
Entrancing fans with their rebellious, pop-party anthems, Cherryade played their debut show at Norwich Arts Centre as part of BBC introducing last month putting on an explosive performance. You can expect to see them bringing trouble to a town near you very soon.
Drawing inspiration from socio-political issues, pop culture, astrophysics, Lil’ Kim and reruns of South Park, Cherryade are ready to break the popstar mould, transforming their iPhone demos into dancefloor fillers and proving ones to look out for in 2017.
