Soft as Snow have today announced the Glass Body Remixed EP, a collection of four remixes from their debut EP, Glass Body, out now on Houndstooth. The remix EP arrives November 4th on the London-based label with reworks from Brian DeGraw of Gang Gang Dance, Maria Minerva, Factory Floor’s Gabe Gurnsey and Lucy, with the latter’s remix of “Halo Heart”.
Glass Body Remixed is a collection of tracks that engage with Soft as Snow’s futuristic, experimental electronic pop, with Lucy integrating Oda’s vocals and driving “Halo Heart” straight to the dance floor while Brian DeGraw capitalizes on the tripped out, weirdo aspects of the duo’s distinctively synth-based sound, crafting a bouncy, wholly new approach to “All our Beasts.” Side B finds Factory Floor’s Gabe Gurnsey giving “Glass Body” a 7-minute full-fledged acid house re-work before Estonia’s de rigeur pop princess Maria Minerva steps in to loop and elevate the vocals on “Blackbirds” and bring the EP in full circle straight back to its entirely experimental pop roots.
Soft as Snow is Oda Egjar Starheim and Øystein Monsen’s first electronic venture, yet their collaboration was initiated years ago through art related performances and projects – including creating their own utopic art and music festival in the Swedish forest, and performing at events in cities such as London (where they are now based) and Oslo. They make experimental pop for the interplanetary set, echoing the sounds of minimal wave and early Warp releases, and their approach to music making is hands-on; avoiding laptops in favour of analogue synths, drum machines and samplers, mixed with idiosyncratic vocals and heavily processed guitars.
