Nick Hakim has today announced his next EP, Where Will We Go Pt. 2, out September 16th on his own Earseed Records. The new EP joins Hakim’s just released debut EP, Where Will We Go Pt. 1.
The Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter was picked to open a handful of dates supporting neo-soul legend Maxwell earlier this summer and has more live dates below, including a New York residency this August as well as a variety of European shows. Raised in Washington, D.C. in a household overflowing with musical diversity ranging from soul, hip-hop, go-go, folk music and more from his Chilean and Peruvian parents, it comes as no surprise that Nick tends to blend genres, mixing the ambient airy sound of psychedelic, with the raw gut-wrenching emotion of the blues. He performs a broad range of the instruments heard on the EP alongside shared production duties, with an early admiration for Marvin Gaye and Harry Nilsson seeping through these introductory recordings. The vulnerability of Nick’s vocals, intimate and silken, is a powerful instrument in its own right that never pushes itself to excess.
