Frontman Dave McMillan’s vocals are as charmingly nonchalant as ever and are crafted seamlessly into the steady pace of the song. Whilst the sentiment is much the same, ‘Ride It Out’ is delivered with a little less gusto than his earlier work, though is perhaps all the more engaging for it. Channelling the likes of Cass McCombs, Real Estate and Deerhunter, McMillan’s hazy vocals wash over rich, reverberating guitar and the steel-string twang of a semi-acoustic — all neatly cocooned in the warmth of analogue production.

Backed by the mastering genius and guitar-pop aficionado that is Mikey Young (Total Control, Eddy Current Suppression Ring), there’s little doubt the rest of Melbourne — and beyond — are soon to follow suit.
