Led by musicians identified as J and T, Jungle formed in early 2013 and released their first singles — the lazing, hypnotic dance grooves “Platoon” and “The Heat” — for the Chess Club label in July and October that year. The former gained Jungle a significant amount of notice for its striking video, which featured only the athletic dance moves of six-year-old English B-girl Terra. Tickets for the group’s first London performance in December 2013 reportedly sold out within 24 hours of going on sale. Along with the likes of Banks, Sampha, Chance the Rapper, and winner Sam Smith, Jungle were selected for the long list of the BBC Sound of 2014 poll. That March, the group went on tour with opening (for HAIM) and headlining dates scheduled for performances in France, the Netherlands, the U.K., and the U.S., including the South by Southwest festival in Austin, Texas.
