“Size of Your Town” by Crepes

Led by the fanciful charm of Tim Karmouche, Crepes bring about breezy pop ditties through frustratingly catchy, guitar-laden arrangements. Following a string of warmly-received singles, the Melbourne-via-Ballarat five-piece have brought their whimsical slacker-pop sound to their first physical release in 2015.

Titled ‘Cold Summers’, the five-track EP is a patchwork of infectious guitar-play and clever lyrics, packed to the brim with an inimitable brand of charm.

Recalling the effortless guitar-pop prowess of the Go-Betweens, as well as the languid allure of Dick
Diver — it seems only appropriate that Melbourne’s own ‘dole-wave’ deity in Mikey Young (Total Control, Eddy Current Suppression Ring) was recruited for mixing and mastering duties.

Having garnered a strong reception online with debut single ‘Ain’t Horrible’ in late 2014 (charting in the Hype Machine’s Top 10, as well as landing a spot in BIRP’s coveted ‘Best of 2014’ compilation), the new year saw ‘Stages of Fear’ and title-track ‘Cold Summers’ attract international radio-play (both landing rotation on Triple J, with the latter breaking into AIR’s Independent Label Radio charts).

With the buzz currently surrounding their debut release, it’s safe to say Crepes’ induction into a vibrant Melbourne music scene has been a fruitful one. Now with the diverse, pop-inflected tapestry that is ‘Cold Summers’ securely in tow, it’s full steam ahead for this promising young band.

“Size of Your Town” is taken from the Crepes’ debut EP ‘Cold Summers’ which was released earlier this year.
