“Not Punk Not Raw” by Cartoon Lizard

Victoria, BC quintet, Cartoon Lizard, have premiered a video for their latest single, “Not Punk Not Raw”. The song is the title-track of their upcoming, debut EP, set for release on April 14.

Of the video, songwriter Ritchie Hemphill stated: “Using music or video media as a platform to start stating things, I wanted to start simply with a message of self celebration and loving the humanity of people. I wanted to show people privately doing self-care. The song is about celebrating ones own specificity as well as being open and accepting of people’s sexual identities. And the partnering idea for the video is celebrating ones own athleticism.”

The psychedelic pop outfit features five members, Hemphill, along with Trevor Lang, Shilo Preshyon, Alex Maunders and Brennan Doyle. Each is a multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and producer. Live Cartoon Lizard is a quartet. Hemphill suffers from a still undiagnosed brain condition that prohibits him from performing. In the studio, Cartoon Lizard put a strong emphasis on collaboration, in shaping each song to its fullest potential with a focus on meticulous experimentation and the constant refining of their craft.

The band released their debut single, “Top of the Mornin'” in 2016, performing regularly in British Columbia. Spring dates in their home province are in the works, with cross-Canada and U.S. dates in the works for the summer.
