“Paper Love” by Allie X

Allie X, recently released her new video for “Paper Love,” the lead single from her debut album COLLXTION II. The hypnotic, pastel-hued visual finds the singer transformed into a pristine porcelain doll who disrupts a vignette of Americana-draped familial fantasy. As the characters take turns silently interacting with the doll, the relationship turns macabre – reflecting the song’s darker undertones of loneliness and loss of control.

“Initially, when I spoke with director Renata Raksha about what we envisioned for the video, we both agreed we wanted to express a kind of transformation as well as a paralysis,” revealed Allie X on the inspiration behind the video. “Becoming a doll who is gradually defaced was a perfect representation of these ideas. Also, I sometimes feel as a female, that becoming a doll-like creature is a way to become more likeable and beloved. Hairless, quiet, composed, unopinionated…I often feel pressure to hide my fieriness or unattractiveness to achieve this image. The video in part is a reminder to myself that acting this way is unsustainable and can be very damaging and it is better to be myself.”
