“Otherside” by DNKL

One of Sweden’s most hotly tipped new acts, electronic ’noir-pop’ trio DNKL, follow up their debut with new single ‘Otherside’. The band’s first release for re-launched UK indie Different Recordings (Claptone, Shadow Child), ‘Otherside’ sees DNKL leave aside the smokey, cinematic feel of their debut EP for a more propulsive, if equally atmospheric, sound.

“We started to work on Otherside last summer, actually under quite some pressure,” explains the band. “We were set to perform at Roskilde and at the time of the booking, our first ever in fact, we only had one track out on Soundcloud. We simply had to sit down together and create music that was needed for the show. It turned out to be quite an exciting challenge.”

“It was the first time we had experimented with adding dancier elements to our music,” they add. “Lyrically it’s still very DNKL though, it’s a song about vanity and the heart burning desire to always get a piece of what we don’t have. The constant gazing at the other side.”

Reworked and honed on tour, and now a fan favourite at the band’s live shows, ‘Otherside’ marks a remarkably assured return for a band only on their second release. Still with their debut EP ‘Wolfhour’ praised by everyone from The Guardian to The Fader, Noisey, The Line of Best Fit and many more plus appearances at some of Europe’s leading festivals under their belt, DNKL have every reason to feel confident in their sound and their long awaited return is sure to win them new fans around the world.
