“Alice” by Mononoke

Inspired by the fierce and animated Japanese Princess of the same name, Mononoke is set to release her debut EP on July 15th and has just released a brand new cinema-graph of her debut track “Alice”, The clip for “Alice” features a still Mononoke continuously pouring herself a glass of milk whilst a clip of the very first film version of Alice in Wonderland plays on repeat in the background.

The Liverpool born singer now living in London, originally released her debut track “Alice” to a wealth of early tastemaker online praise, where comparisons were being made to Lorde & Say Lou Lou.  Another brilliantly received follow-up track later and the singer then seemed to fall off the face of the earth. In reality Mononoke realised she needed to take a step back and really hone her sound and creative image. ‘I think I was too keen to get going before I had any material or imagery to back up what I had already put up online,’ she explainsI’ve been locked away in the studio writing and creating, preparing for my first official release.’

Fast forward eighteen months later and the singer who has been described as having a ‘downcast operatic sound’ is now back with her debut four track EP ‘Silence For You’.  Featuring two brand new unheard tracks ‘Silence for You & ‘Graceland’, Mononoke has also been busy putting together a series of cinema graphs for each track on the EP.

Mononoke says of the track ‘Alice’, It’s about an old relationship I revisited as an adult, and the realisation that it wasn’t quite the same as I remembered.’
