On February 24, Minneapolis indie pop band Hippo Campus will release their debut full-length album landmark via Grand Jury Music (US) and Transgressive Records (UK). Yesterday, they continued sharing tidbits of the forthcoming record with a cover of the classic song “Last Snowstorm Of The Year” by Low, co-produced by BJ Burton and Low’s own Alan Sparhawk who also guests on guitar. This reunites the band with landmark producer BJ Burton and The Halocline EPs producer Sparhawk.

Discussing their choice of song, the band said:

“Alan Sparhawk invited us to play their upcoming Christmas show and figured it’d be neat to cover this song, which just so happened to be lyrically relevant to what we endured last winter as a band, as well as fellow Minnesotans. Much love to BJ Burton and Alan for the collaboration. Merry Christmas. Happy Holidays.”

Recorded by BJ Burton (Bon Iver, Sylvan Esso) at Sonic Ranch, landmark keeps the same relentless energy and musicianship that filled 2015’s Bashful Creatures and South EPs, but finds the band taking a more mature approach to songwriting.

Since a series of SXSW shows in 2015 which led to an appearance on CONAN, Hippo Campus has maintained a hectic touring schedule, opening for acts such as Modest Mouse, Walk the Moon and Real Estate and playing several festivals including Lollapalooza, Reading & Leeds and more. The band recently announced a national headlining tour that kicks off February 15, 2017 in Fargo, ND.
