Young Magic will be embarking on a select round of North American tour dates this June in support of their recently released sophomore record, Breathing Statues, out now on Carpark Records. They’ll play dates with Fuck Buttons, Autre Ne Veut and Craft Spells along the East coast and in celebration of the announcement, the duo are streaming Mark McGuire’s Banishing Remix of lead single “Fall In” now. They love how McGuire “takes the song’s phantasmagoric wall of shoegaze and builds it into a hissing, ethereal, lo-fidelity dream beat. Intentionally or otherwise, the track ultimately fits the band’s vision; one where liberally applied coats of reverb tell the story of a sleepwalker’s journey through organized chaos.”

A New York-based duo of Indonesian vocalist Melati Malay and Australian producer Isaac Emmanuel, Young Magic have also curated a mixtape one whose collection of tracks was inspired by dusty VHS tapes of classic skate videos from the ’90s. Isaac explains, “I loved Mark Gonzales’ part in Video Days – his weaving lines reminded me of movements by jazz musicians or expressionist painters – the art of exploration as important as the outcome. Thomas Campbell’s 16mm film for Supreme in ‘95 was another favorite, so it felt natural to bookend this mix with Coltrane.” An engaging mix that also includes Herbie Hancock and the Cocteau Twins, Isaac also throws in some surprises like Gang Starr and Portishead making for a mix that’s a surprising, experimental blend of work that comes together with cohesion after drifting through different ideas and sounds.
