Leading into this weekend’s inaugural Landmark Music Festival in Washington D.C., Live Nation TV is pleased to debut America’s Stage: Landmark Music Festival, a new documentary on the storied musical history of the National Mall.

Premiering at Apple Music, the documentary features interviews with D.C. natives Wale and Travis Morrison (Dismemberment Plan), Dan Deacon, Son Little, organizers of the festival, and more. In the short film, civil rights activist Gina Belafonte describes the Mall’s legacy as space for musical protest, while Mike Love (Beach Boys) recounts a failed attempt to ban the Beach Boys from playing the Mall during the Reagan Administration. The short film traces America’s shared musical history at the National Mall from Marian Anderson’s historic first performance to Fugazi’s guerrilla sets on the Mall in the late 80s — a history Landmark Music Festival aims to channel this weekend. Created in partnership with the National Parks Service and The Trust for the National Mall, the first Landmark Music Festival kicks off this weekend (September 26-27th) and features performances from Drake, The Strokes, TV on the Radio, Alt-J, Chromeo, Miguel, The War on Drugs, CHVRCHES, and more. Live Nation TV will be covering the festival throughout the weekend.
