Thundercat releases video for "Tokyo"
Thundercat

Thundercat just released the first video from his latest album Drunk (out now on Brainfeeder). The Grammy-winning bass player has been vocal about his love of Japanese culture from sushi to anime and video games and much more, and the album track “Tokyo” is his ode to the country’s capital. The video for the track was directed by Jun Hanamoto-Hearn and shot on location in Tokyo earlier this year while on tour. Thundercat also just returned to Japan for a performance at Fuji Rock Festival, where he headlined the Field of Heaven stage this past Sunday. Watch the video for “Tokyo” here: http://thundercat.lnk.to/tokyo.

The musician is set to head out on an international headline tour later this month, after performances at Outside Lands Festival in San Francisco and Afropunk Festival in Brooklyn. He has also added a second show at NYC’s Brooklyn Steel on October 1, following the first show there on September 30. Tickets for the second show, as well tickets for the newly added September 1 San Diego show go on sale this Friday (8/4). See all upcoming tour dates below.

Drunk is a 23-track epic journey into the often hilarious, sometimes dark mind of the Grammy-winning singer/bassist and finds a few of his friends joining him along the way including: Kendrick Lamar, Pharrell, Michael McDonald, Kenny Loggins, Wiz Khalifa, Kamasi Washington and Brainfeeder mastermind Flying Lotus. Drunk is the follow up to his widely praised 2015 mini album The Beyond / Where The Giants Roam. Since it’s release earlier this year, the album has gone on to be named one of the best albums of the year so far by Complex, SPIN, Billboard and more. In June, Thundercat also performed on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon with music icons Michael McDonald and Kenny Loggins, performing the album’s lead single “Show You The Way.” Watch the performance here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x8AgdI4eyFc.

THUNDERCAT is the alter ego of virtuosic bassist / singer Stephen Bruner. The South Los Angeles-native previously released two critically acclaimed full length albums on Brainfeeder Records and mini-album The Beyond / Where the Giants Roam. Thundercat has also made outstanding contributions to landmark albums by Kamasi Washington (The Epic) and Kendrick Lamar (To Pimp A Butterfly). His work on Lamar’s netted him his first Grammy in 2016.
