Tempest le Mans is the project of Nathan Castiel. Now based in Los Angeles, he pulls scenes of suburban youth from his formative years spent in the San Fernando Valley. Inspired by the intimacy of Big Star and the audacity of ELO, Tempest le Mans makes pop music that mixes the genuine with the sardonic.
Frontman and songwriter Nathan Castiel doubles as a visual artist, seeing that Tempest le Mans’ aesthetic recalls the same humor and vulnerability of his songs. Ideas often stem from resurrected grade school drawings and current relationships set upon the backdrop of adolescence, personal artifacts made universal as they filter through the band. Lead guitar from Jeremy McLennan is loose and nostalgic, while bassist Marcus Högsta and drummer Paul Carter organize the chaos. Together, Tempest le Mans make pop songs that are once economical and ornate.
