Soccer Mommy is the project of twenty-year-old Nashville native, NYU student  Sophie Allison. The singer/songwriter recently announced her forthcoming Fat Possum debut entitled Collection. Today she shares the music video for “Inside Out” . On the clip, Sophie says “I wanted the ‘Inside Out’ video to have a darker feeling than our last,” Sophie says about the video which was directed by Harry James Clifford. “‘Inside Out’ is a song I wrote about feeling helpless about the future and the outcome of a relationship. It reflects a feeling of wanting to have a power over someone, but knowing that you actually have none. The video shows that loneliness in some moments, but – with the monster masks – also reflects a darker side, because those feelings bring out a person’s demons.”

Over the last few years Soccer Mommy has been busy recording her own songs and releasing them for free on Bandcamp. This Summer she will release a mini-album entitled Collection as her Fat Possum debut. Comprising of reworked versions of some of her best Bandcamp releases.

On The songs on Collection,  Sophie sings of toxic relationships, infatuations, and all the experiences of being a teenage girl. There’s a freedom and a joy to this music, and Collection stands as an excellent introduction to a powerful new voice. Critics may decry the end of guitar music, same as they have for over thirty years.

“You can’t say indie rock is dead,” says Sophie. “It’s just being taken over by women.”
