Skylar Spence shares video + remix contest

Skylar Spence shares video for "I Can't be your Superman", announces remix contest. Skylar Spence will tour with Madeon

Skylar Spence (aka Ryan DeRobertis) is back today following a 2015 that saw him shed both his old moniker of Saint Pepsi and the vaporwave tag that came with it, as well as the release of his debut LP and first headlining North American tour. Skylar is sharing the video from Prom King highlight “I Can’t Be Your Superman” in addition to launching a remix contest with Beatport before he heads out on Madeon’s Pixel Empire tour on January 19th.

The Meagan Houang-directed clip for “I Can’t Be Your Superman” takes a decidedly different approach to interpreting Skylar’s song than previous videos. Speaking to that, DeRobertis said:

“Four singles into ‘Prom King’ and I started to feel we’d explored the “budding romance” trope to its fullest extent in our music videos. So when it came time to discuss ideas for “I Can’t Be Your Superman,” the last video accompanying the LP, I was ready to try something new. Originally we’d thought of an idea where my live band and I would participate in a mock episode of a cooking show (think “Cutthroat Kitchen”) but when that proved to be a logistical nightmare, we linked up with Maegan Houang who conceptualized something REALLY rad! It’s part nail salon nightmare, part Daft Punk homage, and those who are uncomfortable with unhappy endings should steer clear!”

The video’s release coincides with the launch of a remix contest for “I Can’t Be Your Superman” presented by Beatport. Head over to Beatport for more details on that, the winners of which receive prizes, that include the first place winner’s remix being released by Carpark exclusively on Beatport.

Finally, Skylar is heading back out on tour this month, hitting North America with Madeon starting on January 19th. Check out the video for “I Can’t Be Your Superman” and all tour dates below.
