Skaters return with video for “Mental Case”

Skaters return with video for "Mental Case", the track is the first for the band, since splitting with Warner.

We just got off of Warner bros records and are back to releasing music independently. While the label money was nice, it’s nice to have freedom again to do whatever we want when we want to do it. We made this video in four hours for like 100$ with our friends and I think it’s the best one we’ve made yet. Enjoy.”
– Michael Cummings (Skaters)

The second track revealed since the band broke with Warner Brothers and took the back the reigns of their career following the release of their 2014 debut album Manhattan, “Mental Case” is the band’s first official single of it’s new DIY phase. Showcasing the Brooklyn-based trio’s signature guitar-laden post-punk, complex vocal harmonies and evolved sonic arrangements, “Mental Case” follows the first Skaters’ track revealed since the major label split.

Shot on a shoestring budget on the mean streets of Greenpoint, Skaters’ “Mental Case” video – premiering today the video stars friend and Arrested Development actress Alia Shawkat (also known for her star turn on Broad City as Alana’s doppelgänger) and features multiple cameos from the band: Michael Ian Cummings (vocals, guitars), Noah Rubin (drums), and Josh Hubbard (guitars).

The video was directed by Giuseppe Furcolo with cinematographer Danilo Parra, and the song was mixed by Cenzo Townshend and mastered by Matt Colton at Alchemy Mastering in London.

Following the release of their 2014 debut album Manhattan, Skaters parted ways with Warner Brothers and began writing music. It was an inspiring time for the band who took their reclaimed freedom into the studio and emerged 50-songs later, ready to embark on their sophomore album effort.

They poured their own money into the process, booked Rumpus Room Record Studios in Brooklyn, NY for 6 weeks and are currently underway recording the album.
