Single Mothers Share “Marble” From New LP

SINGLE MOTHERS share new track "Marble" from their forthcoming LP 'NEGATIVE QUALITIES' out October 7 on Dine Alone and XL, tour starts 8/29 in Brooklyn

London’s very own SINGLE MOTHERS  are back. The band has just announced the release of their debut album, NEGATIVE QUALITIES, to be released on October 7 on  Dine Alone  and XL Recordings.

The first single is a banger called “Marble.” The group will embark on a North American tour staring August 29th, including dates with The Flatliners and Solids.

Known for their dangerously explosive live show and the palpable tension that bleeds into their music, SINGLE MOTHERS shouldn’t exist and neither should their debut album. Led by mercurial troubadour Drew Thomson, the band was shakily hatched in London, Ontario, where it ran through a dozen members before finally recording its debut album last year.

Produced by Joby J. Ford (The Bronx), at 10 songs, Negative Qualities, a debut album that was two years in the making; written across two provinces, initially started in Los Angeles then finished in London, Toronto and Upstate New York. An explosive mix of raw energy, high-end punk and intellectual rendering of small town frustration, the record represents a band pushed to their most savage state. It’s their pound of flesh slammed down on the counter as a raw statement and now, they’re looking to collect. As Thomson rallies “I am who I am” on Negative Qualities, one can only wonder if this is a declaration of acceptance or a derision of him and his band. As such, the album will either be the first of many or the band’s final record.

Comprised of Thomson, guitarist Micheal Peterson, bassist Evan Redsky and drummer Brandon Jagersky, SINGLE MOTHERS gained a cult following in 2012 with the release of their four-song S/T EP. Featuring the single “Christian Girls”. Buoyed by the response, SINGLE MOTHERS quit their jobs, gave up their homes and procured a tour van through money willed to them by a deceased grandparent. Although they had little touring experience, they booked six weeks of DIY shows across North America then hit the road with TITLE FIGHT for thirty-three shows that fall. By year’s end, they had support slots with QUICKSAND and THE BRONX.
