Sad13 and Lizzo Present “Basement Queens”

Sad13 (Sadie Dupuis of Speedy Ortiz) x Lizzo Present “Basement Queens,"

Some of the most popular songs ever recorded were the result of collaborations. Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney. Nicki Minaj & Beyonce. David Bowie and Freddie Mercury. Patti Smith & Bruce Springsteen. With this in mind, Google challenged Speedy Ortiz’s prolific frontwoman Sadie Dupuis (writing under her new pop moniker Sad13) and burgeoning hip hop queen Lizzo to write a song together in Google Docs.

After hashing out ideas, lyrics and overall structures using Hangouts and Docs from Massachusetts and Minnesota respectively, the pair met in-person for the first time at the Room 17 studio in Brooklyn to record their new single “Basement Queens”. With irresistible vocal harmonies and driving bass beats, “Basement Queens” is a celebration of individuality and creation on your own terms.
