Rex Orange County shares debut album

Rex Orange County shares debut album 'Apricot Princess'.

Today, Surrey, England born and bred 18-year-old artist Rex Orange County is sharing his debut album. Apricot Princess is available now across all digital platforms. The Apricot Princess release comes one week after Rex shared a Sam Hiscox directed video for “Untitled,” the lead single from the project.

Fed up of school and his sleepy hometown, Alex O’Connor started Rex Orange County in his mid-teens, uploading his bedroom-produced debut bcos u will never b free to Bandcamp after falling in love with Frank Ocean’s Channel Orange and productions by Thundercat and Toro Y Moi. After his debut release drew him towards collaborators like Badbadnotgood, Benny Blanco and Two Inch Punch, Rex began putting together the bones of his debut album proper; a collection that hones in on “general positivity,” meeting a girl, discovering London and breaking free from boredom – Apricot Princess. Swinging between up-tempo full-band jams to lazy, guitar-and-vocal love songs, the album showcases the range of an artist beyond his 18 years.

Rex made his radio host debut on Beats 1 with his aptly named Apricot Radio last night. Album tracks “Happiness” and “Never Enough” also had premiere spins with Matt Wilkinson and Mistajam for Beats and Radio 1 respectively. To date Rex has released three singles: “UNO,” “Best Friend,” and “Sunflower.”

On May 18th, Rex will be playing his debut US show at Sunnyvale in New York.
