Oneohtrix Point Never to tour Nine Inch Nails

Oneohtrix Point Never replace to Open for Nine Inch Nails and Soundgarden on Select US Dates, Oneohtrix Point Never start their tour July 19th in Las Vegas

Oneohtrix Point Never (OPN) have been announced as the opening act for select dates on the Nine Inch Nails/Soungarden Tour. OPN will serve as a replacement on these dates to the now-defunct Death Grips. OPN, who has been touring material from his last record R Plus Seven (Warp), is planning on presenting new material heavily oriented towards the drone/ambient style of his previous work.

“Sharing the stage with NIN means a great deal to me, and I’m honored to be replacing Death Grips on this tour. The last amphitheater tour I did was with Sigur Rós, in which audiences had no idea whether or not I was performing because I was behind a giant sheet. I’m happy to say that the setup is going to incredible on this run. Thus, I’m attempting to write 30 minutes of customized hard rock cyberdrone specifically for this tour. I am grateful to Trent Reznor and his production team for all their help.”

Brooklyn-based OPN has always deftly balanced the experimental with the accessible: He has released several albums under his Oneohtrix Point Never moniker on various independent labels — including the 2013 3-CD/5 LP Rifts, a compilation of his early work — as well as amassing a large catalogue of mini-album tape releases. 2011’s Replica, was built around samples of television commercials while his latest work, R Plus Seven for Warp Records is disruptive and hypnotic in equal measure.

For the uninitiated OPN has built live soundscapes at the Museum of Modern Art; collaborated with Montreal-based ambient electronic music composer Tim Hecker on the largely improvised 2012 Instrumental Tourist; and recast the title track from his 2010 disc Returnal as an elegant and emotive piece for piano, featuring the otherworldly voice of Antony Hegarty. Advertising powerhouse Saatchi & Saatchi tapped Lopatin for an installation event at the 2012 Cannes film fest and Sofia Coppola’s longtime cohort Brian Reitzell invited him to create original music for Coppola’s The Bling Ring.
