Moon Gangs reveals new video, EP out May 5th

MOON GANGS reveals video for the single ‘I’, the first track from their new EP out May 5th on Sexbeat Records. MOON GANGS play Camden Crawl festival in June

After recently announcing news of Moon Gangs’ debut EP, Sexbeat Records (White Lung, Eagulls, GAPS) have released the official video (short film) for ‘I’, the first track from the upcoming record, which is set for release on May 5th.

The new video explores exotic landscapes and abandoned underwater cities with colorful visuals and hosts a whole load of sci-fi B movie references as it takes the viewer on a journey into the unknown.

Director Penny Mills states “We wanted the video to tell a story and take its viewer on a journey through outer space exploring unknown worlds whilst scanning and collecting data of extraterrestrial species” with illustrator Katie Scott adding “the video’s climax is an immersive and dark journey, visiting the classic Sci Fi narrative of intergalactic uncertainty, and possible insanity.”

Moon Gangs is the musical alias of London-based producer Will Young. The upcoming ‘Moon Gangs’EP was inspired by the likes of John Carpenter and Tangerine Dream soundtracks, plus synth driven Krautrock like Ashra Tempel and Popol Vuh. Contextually it stands somewhere in between modern day electronic outsiders such as The Haxan Cloak and Blanck Mass. With a DIY thesis behind it, Young reigned in the help of his friends to help make the final product. The record was mixed mixed by Matt J of Hookworms / Suburban Studios and Linda Jarvis of Echo Lake designed the artwork for the sleeve and record. All three of the tracks were mastered by East London producer and engineer Rory Attwell whose  credits include work for Palma VioletsBig Deal &Veronica Falls amongst many others.

The forthcoming record is made up of three tracks, ‘I’, ‘II’ and ‘III’ that were recorded over a three month period in late 2013. They were edited down from ten hours of improvised synth recordings, which were made entirely using looped Eurorack modular synths, into three intense movements, each just shy of ten minutes long.

The upcoming EP is out on May 5th as a digital download and a limited edition one sided 12″ vinyl.  The record sleeve and the blank side of the vinyl have been screen printed onto, for this limited edition release.
