Mass Appeal Records shares second single "PHOENIX" off 'Rubble Kings', The track features ROXINY & TUNDE ADEBIMPE.

Today, Mass Appeal Records shares the second single “Phoenix” off Rubble Kings: The Album featuring Roxiny and Tunde Adebimpe. The full album is set to release on January 15, 2016 via Mass Appeal Records. Inspired by the documentary Rubble Kings, the album is produced by Little Shalimar (who also scored the film), and features appearances from Run The Jewels, Bun B, Ghostface Killah, Killer Mike, Mr Muthaf*kin eXquire, Boldy James, Cuz Lightyear, and Ka in addition to Tunde Adebimpe and Roxiny.

The verses are written from a female perspective to give a voice to the women who stood strong and screamed silently. Roxiny shares on writing “Phoenix” and being part of the soundtrack, “The idea of the phoenix felt powerful to me- it’s a symbol of hope, rebirth, and survival; one that speaks to me personally. Most importantly, it’s a message I felt from all those who lived to tell their stories in Rubble Kings.”

Little Shalimar on scoring the film and producing the soundtrack:

Scoring the film, Rubble Kings was a total pleasure. It was the first time I ever set out to make period music. Most of my influences are 60s and 70s funk and soul, but usually when I set out to make new music I want it to be just that, new. This score gave me the opportunity to make old sounding stuff which was a blast. Half of the music on this album was taken directly from the score. For the new tunes I sampled joints from the score and made new beats out of them. The messages of hope and self determination from the film are so applicable to modern times that we felt it was really important to include rappers and singers that young people check today. Our hope is that kids who may have otherwise missed the movie will pick up on it by checking out this album. I’m in the fortunate position to work with a bunch of really great artists on a regular basis. I called on my friends and their friends to contribute vocals as project. I couldn’t be more pleased with how it turned out. El-P, Killer Mike, eXquire, Cuz, Ka, Roxiny, Tunde Adebimpe, Boldy James, and Ghostface all delivered beautiful work that will hopefully help spread the word about this awesome film.

The Album is a soundtrack of music inspired by the movie Rubble Kings and is out globally on digital and physical formats on January 15, 2016 via Mass Appeal Records. Produced by longtime Run The Jewels collaborator Little Shalimar, the album features appearances from Bun B, Ghostface Killah, Killer Mike, Tunde Adebimpe, Mr Muthaf*kin eXquire, Boldy James, Cuz Lightyear, Ka and Roxiny, in addition to Run The Jewels. The physical CD and 2xLP includes a download card for the album and the full documentary.

The documentary chronicles life during the era of gang ruled New York City and tells the story of how a few extraordinary, forgotten people did the impossible and how their actions impacted the city and the world at large by planting the seeds to what would become hip hop culture.
