Singer, songwriter and producer Kali Uchis’ releases video for “Ridin Round,”

Singer, songwriter and producer Kali Uchis’ video for “Ridin Round,” produced by DJ Dahi ( Kendrick Lamar), premiered earlier today. Watch the video, directed by Uchis and Felipe Holguín/Cumbia Films and shot in Uchis’ native Colombia, below. “Ridin Round” is out now on cult UK label Rinse Recordings, below.

“‘Ridin Round’ is about accepting your past and everything you are, even the not so good parts,” Uchis tells Noisey. “I wanted to highlight where I’m from (in Colombia), my culture, and real people. There are no actors, the family in the video is my family. We filmed the parade on the street I used to live on when I was little. The production team, Cumbia Films, was an all-Colombian team based out of Cartagena. It was a lot of fun to make this with my family and involve everyone, I never felt so happy making a video.”

“Ridin Round” originally appeared on Uchis’ Por Vida Additionally, a remix of the track featuring Toronto rapper Tory Lanez is forthcoming.

Uchis is currently touring North America with Leon Bridges. Fresh from two nights in New York at the Apollo Theater and Webster Hall, Uchis will play further dates including San Francisco’s The Fillmore and two nights at Los Angeles’ Fonda Theatre.

Since the relase of Por Vida, Uchis has debuted a Nick Knight-directed acoustic video for her song “Loner”, directed videos for “Loner” and “Rush,” starred in a campaign for British designer Sophia Webster, played Austin City Limits, appeared at Coachella with collaborators Tyler, The Creator and Kaytranada and toured worldwide with dates at Mexico’s Ceremonia Festival, the U.K.’s Great Escape and sold-out London shows.
Uchis wrote each of the nine tracks on Por Vida and collaborated on production on the new release with Tyler, The Creator, Kaytranada, BADBADNOTGOOD and more.

Twenty-two-year-old Uchis was born in Pereira, Colombia, raised in Alexandria, VA and is now based in Los Angeles, CA. After writing, producing, recording and releasing her 2013 mixtape Drunken Babble in 48 hours, Uchis caught the attention of the likes of Snoop Dogg and Tyler, The Creator. In the months since, Uchis’ collaborations have resulted in Por Vida and the evolution of her signature sound, something she calls “lowrider soul.”
