Ibeyi debut brand new song “Exhibit Diaz”

Ibeyi debut brand new song "Exhibit Diaz", from their current self-titled LP, now out on XL Recordings

Since releasing their debut album in February of this year, it has been well documented that the Ibeyi twin-sisters Naomi and Lisa-Kainde Diaz are dedicated fans of hip-hop. Today they release their unique interpretation of the cult Jay Electronica track “Better In Tune With The Infinite (Bibo No Aozora)” which they have named “Exhibit Diaz”.

Since hearing the original version of Jay Electronica’s never released track (that draws upon a haunting piano sample by composer Ryuichi Sakamoto) the sisters immediately went away and learnt every lyric, turned Jay’s rapping into a sung vocal line and worked it into their very next live show – where it has remained ever since and subsequently became a fan favourite.

Ibeyi continue to take their live shows to every corner of the globe, from The Park Stage at Glastonbury to the Summerstage in Central Park New York and everywhere in between. Today they announce an extension to the world tour. check out the details below:

Naomi and Lisa-Kainde Diaz are daughters of the late Cuban percussion Anga Diaz. Naomi plays percussive instruments, the Cajon and the Batas, while Lisa plays piano. Together the twins have learned the songs of their father’s culture, Yoruba. Yoruba travelled from West Africa to Cuba with slavery in the 1700s. The Yoruba people have the highest twinning rate in the World, and twins occupy an important position within Yoruba culture. Ibeyi is pronounced “ee-bey-ee” and translates as “Twins” in Yoruba.
