Empress Of debuts video for “Water Water”

Today Empress Of, the musical project of Lorely Rodriguez, has premiered the video for her new single “Water Water” and a stream of the Spanish translation of the track “Agua Agua.” Written in Valle de Bravo, Mexico, which is located on the shore of Lake Avándaro, Lorely wrote the song while on an unexpectedly life-changing and mind-bending solo writing retreat for her self-produced and written debut album, out this summer on Terrible Records. Directed by Zaiba Jabbar and Empress Of, the video is an echo-impression of Lorely. She explains more, “I wanted to make a video that made me experience the emotions I felt when I wrote the song. Mostly like drowning in that synth pad.”

“Water Water” is a tribute to her creative time spent on the retreat and the Spanish translation of the song, is equally as significant. Since the inception of Empress Of, Lorely has equally contributed both English and Spanish lyrics to her songs. “Agua Agua”, which premiered today, is the latest Spanish version of one of her songs and is for her mom, which she exclaims: “I wanted my mom to be able to sing along in Spanish!”

Last month Empress Of completed a 5-night residency at Elvis Guesthouse in NYC, where she performed new music from her upcoming debut album. The shows presented her unique blend of deeply personal yet incredibly celebratory dance music. She’ll join supporting shows with Florence & The Machine this month.
