Black Lips to Play Egypt on International Peace Day

Atlanta-based flower punk quartet Black Lips have announced revised dates for their previously announced Middle Eastern tour, including a show at Cairo’s El Sawy Culturewheel celebrating International Peace Day on September 21st. Boasting a multicultural bill that includes Lebanese rockers Lazzy Lung and Egyptian punkers Faking It and 050 Band the promoters boast that this will be the first show in Egypt to merge international and local acts in one event, bridging the gap between cultures.

The historic event falls in the midst of Black Lips unprecedented Mideast tour, which includes shows in Cyprus, Egypt, the UAE, Jordan and Lebanon, all with Lebanese band Lazzy Lung in the support slot. “We want to play everywhere on the planet, and the opportunity came up. We couldn’t say no,” states Lips bassist and vocalist Jared Swilley. “Anywhere that we haven’t been excites us. Not many western bands have toured the region and to be one of the first is amazing. Adventures are the best.” The Lips are no strangers to travel in remote locales, with tours in Australia, Thailand, Europe and India already under their collective belts. Wherever the road leads them, the band look to expand their horizons and spread their message of peace, fun, and rock and roll as far as it will go. “People like music and having fun and I think that’s pretty universal,” adds Swilley.
