Afropunk announces return to Paris

Afropunk announces 2016 lineup for Paris.

After two sold out nights in Paris just last year the AFROPUNK festival has announced that they’re taking the festival to The City of Lights for the second time. The festival will take place June 3rd, 4th and 5th at the renowned and beautiful Le Trianon located in the heart of Paris with performances by Skye & Ross from Morcheeba, Michael Kiwanuka, Saul Williams, Angel Haze, Lizzo, Cakes Da Killa, Carving, Samm Henshaw, The OBGM’s and more TBA soon. In true AFROPUNK form the festival will also serve as a cultural experience with food, live painting by local artists, an acoustic stage with activities happening before and after the fest as well (more details on that soon). The festival is being thrown in conjunction with one of France’s most respected production teams, Nous Production.

Additionally AFROPUNK will be bringing the first ever Race Music event to Paris on March 22nd along with AFROPUNK Battle of the Bands, which will give up and coming bands a chance to play the actual festival. With the name Race Music – which comes from the term “Race records”, the first releases of jazz, blues and gospel albums from the early 1920’s to the late 1940’s, the spotlight is on African-American modern History: from the first fights against segregation to the Black Lives Matter movement, including the Black Power Era in the 70’s, and the birth of musical trends that surrounded this History (bebop, hip-hop, rhythm’n’blues, soul and rock’n’roll). Race Music is a series of evenings presented by AFROPUNK in New York, Atlanta and now Paris, that includes a movie screening about African American History, followed by a musical event connected to the movie with the Paris addition featuring a performance from Michael Kiwanuka.
