Best Records 2014

Northern Transmissions has put together our list of the Top 23 Albums and the Singles of 2014. It’s always tough to narrow down the choices as we reflect on all the amazing music we’ve heard over the past 12 months, and this year has been no exception. No matter where you looked, it seemed an artist was dropping an album or a single that you just had to have in your collection. 2014 has been fruitful for a lot of the Indie artists we all love so much and their careers are really starting to explode. The War on Drugs and Future Islands have performed on Conan and Letterman this year, and they are selling out shows everywhere they go. Ariel Pink has soared to even greater heights, and just announced he will be playing the Burgerama Four festival in early 2015 with TY Segall and Black Lips.

Veterans of the music scene like Thom Yorke, who released another incredible solo effort this year, ‘Tomorrow’s Modern Boxes’, proved that he’s not slowing down anytime soon. And speaking of music icons, we never thought we’d see Beck reach back to his ‘Sea Change’ days, but he did just that, built on it and gave us a diamond with the track “Blue Moon”. From new artists, to those that we’ve known for decades, we think 2014 will be remembered as an incredible year for Indie music.

Make sure to check out anything you may have missed from our best of lists and maybe pick up one of your favorite releases to give as a gift for the holidays. 2015 is just around the corner and we’re pretty certain it’s going to be another epic year for music no matter what you’re into.
