Julien Baker premiered her cover of Elliott Smith’s “Ballad Of Big Nothing” this morning Her cover, alongside 15 others, can be found on the forthcoming compilation Say Yes! A Tribute To Elliott Smith, out October 14th, 2016 via American Laundromat Records.
The Memphis, TN-native Baker will head back out on a North American headlining tour in support of her debut album Sprained Ankle next week, playing to her biggest rooms to date throughout the midwest, east coast, and into Canada. The dates begin next Wednesday, April 13th in Indianapolis, IN and continue through April 27th with a sold-out show at New York’s Bowery Ballroom. Having wrapped up east and west coast US runs in January and February – as well as a stop at SXSW in Austin, TX last month.
Sprained Ankle was released on October 23, 2015 via 6131 Records. Baker wrote these nine songs across 2014, following her move from Memphis to Murfreesboro, TN for college. Away from her family and close friends (including her band Forrister), writing proved to be a creative, cathartic outlet for her loneliness. The resultant songs are confessional yet accessible, personally contemplative yet universally relatable, unsparingly honest yet deeply heartening – and filled with tales of staggering experiences and striking imagery.
